Kelowna Wedding Photographer | 2015 Most Popular First Dance Songs

As a Kelowna Wedding Photographer, I have had the privilege of witnessing the First Dance of couples all over the Okanagan, and around the world. The First Dance as a married couple is a tradition in European and American cultures where the Bride and Groom have the first dance of the evening, as the honored guests, opening the dance floor for the night – much like an old-fashioned ball.

Every First Dance that I have seen is different, and unique to the couple. There is no exact dance that has to happen, it is whatever the couple decides to do. Some have a pre-choreographed dance, where as others would rather just embrace the moment and dance together however their feet lead them. In the following image, the Bride was surprised by the Groom when he changed their first dance song to one of her favorites, Moon River from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired part of the Wedding theme so it was particularly touching!

Whether you decide to go to dance lessons months in advance, or want to dance “on-the-spot”, you HAVE to have the most beyond perfect music to accompany your first dance together. I have done a bit of surfing, and have made a list of the Most Popular First Dance Songs of 2015…so far:

  1. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
  2. All of Me – John Legend
  3. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
  4. Only Love – Ben Howard
  5. I Won’t Give Up – Jason Mraz
  6. Marry You – Bruno Mars
  7. Stay with Me – Sam Smith
  8. How Long Will I Love You – Ellie Goulding
  9. Baby I’m Yours – Arctic Monkeys
  10. Grow Old with Me – Tom Odell

These songs for the most part have been release in the past year or two. If you are looking for a more old-fashioned popular wedding song to be your First Dance, then here are a few of my FAVORITE and rather popular songs – if you do decide to use one of these tracks, you may need to find a newer version as the audio is not what we are use to these days:

1. L.O.V.E – Frank Sinatra

2. When I Fall in Love – Nat King Cole

3. The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra (this was my first dance song with my husband)

I am so excited to see what lays in store for the up coming wedding season, and I am even more excited to witness all of the beautiful First Dances that come hand-in-hand with weddings!

Only hard part here is figuring which Hall and Oates song you should play because there are so many good ones that it is like a hit parade that never ends.ReplyCancel
