As Okanagan Wedding Photographers, I get to meet a lot of amazing people but when I photographed the wedding of Kristy and Chris last summer, I had no idea I would have the privilege of seeing them all again, but this time in Penticton for Kristys’ sisters party celebrating her recent wedding!

It was actually Kristy who reached out when Jackie started planning their special day and I was so touched they were inviting me to capture another family celebration!

Surprising everyone with an elopement in Nevada last winter, Jackie and Steve wanted to plan an event that brought everyone together to celebrate their vows. They got to work on planning the most summer feeling party of the year! They chose the fantastic Cannery Brewing in the heart of Penticton and set off to create an evening of fun with a live band, made to order food, drinks and games.

It was important for them to start off the night with some family portraits and we were lucky that the Ikeda Japanese Gardens were a short walk away. We all met there under perfectly overcast skies and I even got to meet Kristy and Chris’s new baby boy!!!

Meeting Steve’s side of the family now too, there was so much fun, love and great stories shared during speeches. What a perfect blending of two amazing families!

And if all my words don’t tell the story enough, here in their own words is their love story….

Hi there! We’re Jackie and Steve, and this is how our journey together began.
It all started in 2008, during our first year at the University of Victoria. We lived in the same residence, became fast friends, and were inseparable within our tight-knit friend group. Whether it was annual camping trips, snowshoeing adventures, or weekends at friends’ cabins, we were always finding new ways to make memories together.
Life took us on different paths for a while—Steve spent a year traveling, and Jackie spent three and a half years teaching overseas—but we always stayed in touch. When Jackie moved back to Vancouver in 2017, we reconnected. While the idea of dating crossed our minds, we decided to just stay friends.
Then came 2020. As the world slowed down, we leaned on each other for company—playing cribbage online, hosting virtual movie nights, and keeping our friendship alive. By 2021, we both bought our own places and found ourselves on countless trips to HomeSense, helping each other furnish our new homes. We even got a shared Costco membership—Steve covered the annual fee, and Jackie provided the car. Somewhere between shopping trips and bulk snack runs, it became clear: we were more than just friends.
In 2022, Steve finally made the bold move to ask Jackie to give this thing a shot. And it worked!
On December 10, 2024, we eloped in the stunning Red Rock Canyon, surrounded by love and nature’s beauty. We couldn’t be happier, and now we’re thrilled to celebrate with all of you—our favorite people.
