We Vernon Photographers meet a lot of beautiful souls in our line of work. We meet clients with their newborn babies and families (Baby Bliss Photography), and for couples as they are excitedly plan out their weddings.
I first met Leon and Jessica for coffee so they could tell me more about the beautiful wedding they are planning this summer at Blue Grass Farms in Armstrong BC.
They actually found me because of the wedding I photographed this summer of my best friends daughter. Jessica knows Emma and when she saw their portraits she knew she wanted to reach out.
There are some couples that when you meet, you are immediately drawn to them and their love story. This is one of those couples.
They have found a safe place to land. You can see it in their every glance and interaction. Leon beams when he talks about Jessica and how they found each other on line. His life in Vancouver and hers here in the Okanagan. How he has been driving here numerous times since then to start their life together.
Once they had secured their venue and me, the one really big thing that they didn’t have….was the ring. They found the perfect one, but Jessica has tiny fingers and it was going to take some time to get it in.
Leon knew this was his chance to surprise her with a proposal (that hadn’t officially happened yet) and he also knew it was going to be rather tricky to pull it off. That’s when our phone calls started to happen to plan out the details.
We have had a late start to winter this year. Everything looks rather dead and dull without snow so we chatted about going up to Silver Star Mountain Ski Resort to get that beautiful wintry vibe.
We were going under the guise that one of my photography students needed some clients to work with and we were wondering if we could use them.
Thankfully Jessica bought it and said yes. That morning however, my photography student (yes that part was real and yes she was going to come up and work with them) fell on some ice and hurt her back.
I panicked a bit because I didn’t want to show up without her and have Jessica start to get suspicious so I sent her the screen shot of my students accident text so that she would know that part was true. I told her because they had already gotten ready for photos, I would still meet them and follow through with the session.
Little did we know we were walking into a minor snow storm and the weather was less than ideal. It created a few challenging minutes but the end result was total surprise and one of the most beautiful moments to witness.
I am SO beyond happy for these beautiful humans and I can’t wait to create their Engagement Portraits in the Spring 🙂
