As a Vernon and Kelowna Wedding Photographer, Dean’s phone call to me was a first. He started off by saying he had a “small request”; or maybe it wasn’t such a small request. He was looking for a photographer to capture him proposing to his girlfriend. I immediately got super giddy as a flood of emotions raced into my head. I thought about when my husband proposed to me, and of all the engagement stories I have heard from my Wedding clients over the years. Now I was going to be a part of one of those stories!
On the morning of the big day, my family asked me if I was nervous. They said I should be as it wasn’t something I could mess up 😉 I wasn’t nervous about my ability to capture the moment, but I was definitely nervous about how it was all going to come together. Would Kelsey start piecing things together when she saw me, would Dean hold it together, would I somehow be in the wrong place and miss it?
Dean and I had spoke on the phone a number of times to plan it all out and it was set that we would meet on the Salmon Arm Pier. He and Kelsey were traveling to Vancouver from Enderby that day and he was going to use it as an excuse to stop for a quick stretch, take some photos (as they both had agreed they never take enough photos) and get some excellent pie to take to the Coast from the local bakery. As I was likely to be the only other person there, my cover story was I was taking some scenic wildlife shots.
Dean & Kelsey arrive….Dean has told Kelsey that they never take enough photos so he’s getting some 🙂
Dean’s making small talk….you can tell he’s nervous and takes a few more picture. By this point they have walked past me and I have said “hello” but still pretending to aim my camera at wildlife 😉
Dean pulls out the box & Kelsey realizes what is going on….
Kelsey realizes now why I am there 😉
Now for the ring….
Although by this point we were all soaking wet, we had to get some more engaged portraits.
Dean, I am so glad you called me to help capture your special moment. You two will certainly have a magical first Christmas as a newly engaged couple and I wish you both all the best as you start to plan your dream Wedding.
