As a Vernon Photographer, I have had a lot of amazing projects to work on.
One that came unexpectedly last summer, was to work with a motorcycle company located here in Vernon B.C. that takes new Triumph Bobber Black motorcycles and turns them into vintage looking WWI and WWII army motorcycles.
Out of these amazing works of art, came a new motorcycle company; DMZ Motorcycles. Each bike is built to commemorate the brave soldiers who were known as dispatch riders. Their heroism, courage and great military achievement helped war efforts by delivering vital messages to other brave soldiers waiting for orders.
Each motorcycle in the collection is an original and researched for correctness. There is no detail that has been ignored. From the seat, saddle bags, hand painted Victory Girl emblems, or gas tank cap, they are beautiful to photograph.
The owner of this company had a great vision for his photoshoot and so over the course of two different days, I drove over 5 hours each time to the town of Grand Forks (near the US border) where the bikes had been brought in by trailer. The reason Grand Forks was chosen was for their smaller airport and a vintage 1941 Boeing Stearman US Navy Trainer that is flown out of the airport there. It was part of the amazing set up we got to work with when photographing these bikes. I can’t tell you what an exhilarating rush it was to sit on the airplane runway and to have a 1941 airplane fly over my head!!!
Thanks to the team involved and to Jaedyn for being our fantastic model!
And thanks to CDN BKR (Canadian Biker Magazine-Issue #351) for publishing a great article and portraits from our session!
