As a Vernon Photographer, I have lots of requests to photograph Weddings, Newborns, Children & Families, but it’s only recently that I have started getting requests to photograph Graduates. In the United States they refer to it as Senior Portraiture but here in Canada most people would think it would mean photographing senior citizens 😉
Back in the day (boy that makes me sound old) our Graduation was broken into two different events. Prom (where we got dressed up with our dates like the images I photographed for Aslinn) and then Graduation-a separate day to wear our cap and gown and to celebrate with family.
Now, it’s all one big day of celebration, followed by Dry Grad. Talk about a whirlwind day of celebrating!
Scott, a friend and sometimes associate photographer of mine (based on his work schedule), met in 2010. We were both attending at a Wedding workshop in Vancouver by the incredible Jerry Ghionis-an idol in the Wedding Photography world for his incredible vision for light and shadow and capturing the emotion of the day. The workshop was transforming to my work and it was also great to meet a fellow Vernonite.
When Scott emailed me to ask if I could come to Polson Park to capture some images of Aslinn’s grad, he told me he was going to capture much of the day, but it was important for me to come so he could be in some of the portraits himself. Such is the nature of being a photographer who is always the one taking the pictures. I am hardly in any family pictures myself so I know exactly how he feels. I was super excited to come for a short bit to capture some of the excitement.
Aslinn, you looked absolutely stunning and I wish you a world of happiness and adventures as your graduate from Kalamalka Secondary School.
